Got an old frame lying around or picked one up for free on Ziilch?
How about trying your hand at creating your own coloured chalk board!

What will you need to create your DIY chalk board?

  • A frame with a solid backing board
  • Liquid nails - if you have a large board that requires reinforcing
  • Water based acrylic paint (preferably a colour that will contrast well with white chalk)
  • Unsanded grout (you can buy this from a hardware or tile shop)
  • Roller, paintbrush or foam sponge
  • Fine sandpaper - Rag / Cloth
  • White chalk for priming

Step One

Choose your frame. If you have a large frame & backboard you will need to use 2 backboards to reinforce it and make it more sturdy. If using a smaller frame one backboard should be sufficient.
