Make your own vintage doily bangle
What you will need:
- A doily (with a hoizontal pattern you can use for the length of the bangle)
- Fabric Stiffner (Available from craft and fabric stores)
- A bangle to use as a template
- Cling wrap
- Plastic bag
- A button
- Needle and thread
- Elastic
- Scissors
Step One
Find a bangle to use as a template and wrap it in cling wrap to protect it.
Step Two
Decide which part of the doily pattern you are using for the bangle. Watch out for where the patterns join so it doesn't fall apart!
Cut the doily, making sure you have enough length to wrap around the bangle template.
Step Three
Put the doily into a plastic bag and squeeze in some fabric stiffener, enough for a generous coating.
Step Four
Close the bag and squish the doily and fabric stiffener together until the doily is saturated.
Step Five
Take the doily carefully out of the bag and position it on the bangle. We added a little more fabric stiffener at this stage... just to be sure!
Let the doily dry for around 24 hours.
Step Six
After 24 hours you will notice that the doily is quite stiff. Grab a pair of scissors and trip the ends off on the underside.
Step Seven
Once you have the ends trimmed carefully peel back the doily from the bangle template.
Step Eight
With a sharp pair of scissors carefully trim the excess doily at the edges.
Step Nine
The bangle is almost complete, but to make sure it stays on grab a button, a needle, some thread and thin elastic. We used some with tiny beads threaded on to the elastic it to make it a little more fancy.
To secure, carefully sew the button on the one end of the bangle. On the other side we tied each end of the elastic to the under side of the bangle.
Step Ten
Make sure the elastic hooks on and secures well.
