Our home made recipe for a citrus lemon cleaner is a great alternative to toxic and chemical based cleaners. Homemade cleaning products - Citrus lemon cleaner
What you will need
- White vinegar
- Fresh lemons or oranges (Suggested combinations: 100% lemon, 100% orange, 50/50 oranges & lemons)
- Apple peeler
- Glass jar for storage
- Spray bottle
Step One
Peel the skin with an apple peeler so that you only get the part that contains the lemon oil, don't use the pith(white part).
Step Two
Place skins in a clean airtight jar 3/4 fill with peel and completely cover with white vinegar.
Lemons can be left with pith on them and placed in the fridge for a few days without soiling.
Step Three
Leave the citrus cleaning solution for 2 to 3 weeks while the vinegar draws out the oil from the lemon skin. Vinegar is a well known cleaning agent but the citrus oil gives more cleaning performance and smells lovely and fresh.
Ready, Set, Green Clean!
When the solution is ready strain the citrus peels and discard. Put the liquid back into an air tight jar for storage. Depending on the application, dilute the citus solution before use into a squirty bottle, we recommend a 1:1 ratio of water and cleaner. To use, simply spray onto the area to be cleaned and wipe off with a soft cloth or sponge.
