Many fashion shoes these days are made from synthetic and man made materials. These synthetic shoes are not as durable as leather nor do they have the longevity. Unfortunately these shoes sometimes only last a season and they are disposed of for a shiny new pair. But if you're looking to save some money on your wardrobe, have a go at our tutorial on rejuvenating and reviving synthetic shoes.
How to revive and rejuvinate synthetic shoes
What you will need
- Pair of worn shoes
- Shoe polish (We used Dark Tan which added warmth and depth to the shoe.)
- Brush to apply polish
- Brush to buff polish
Step One
Select a shoe polish a shade or two darker than the original colour.
Step Two
Apply a generous amount of shoe polish to the shoe using a circular motion. With a synthetic shoe it may seem like it's just sitting on the surface and not penetrating the material, so as it dries reapply areas that haven't taken as well.
Rub the shoe polish into the stitches to highlight the shoes detail.
Step Three
After applying to the whole shoe, allow it to dry. Usually this is between 10-30 minutes.
Step Four
Grab your polishing brush and vigorously brush the shoe all over, use strokes and circular motions.
The brushing and buffing will result in a shiny finish to the synthetic material.
For the purpose of this tutorial, we did one boot at a time to illustrate the outcome.
The result
We love how these rejuvinated boots now look! The items required to do this are less than $10 to buy in your supermarket, but FREE if you already have them. What a bargain.
