Ziilch recommends contacting your local charity before donating your items to find out what the charity specifically needs and what they have too much of. Millions of dollars are spent every year by Charities and OpShops managing waste and inappropriate items dumped outside their premises and at donation boxes. Dumping of unsuitable items is a huge problem for charities and diverts funds away from programs that are designed to help people in times of need.
Also remember that it is important that the goods you donate are quality items and in working order. For health and safety reasons, Australian charities do place tough restrictions on what can and can’t be donated, so please see this list published by the Salvation Army and this one from The Brotherhood of St Laurence for examples of items not suitable for donation. If your items are not suitable for donation, they may still be great candidates to be re-used or upcycled and we urge you to keep them out of landfill by listing them on Ziilch.
